We have stayed in both apartments for 3 weeks in 2012 & 2013 and have booked again for 3 weeks this year. Mr & Mrs Robinson are friendly and go out of their way to make your holiday an enjoyable one without being obtrusive. The apartments are spacious, beautifully furnished warm and comfortable with every facility for your needs. They are spotlessly clean and carefully maintained. The views are just lovely. There is a tray for tea or coffee and a beautiful sponge on arrival, which is very welcome after a long journey. I can also recommend preserves and Christmas puddings from the Coniston Larder. Thank you for making our holidays so enjoyable. See you in September!
As a family of four we had a lovely week in this warm comfortable apartment. The location is great for fabulous walks from the door to the surrounding peaks and lakes. Tarn Hoes just an hour or so walking distance and nice cafes and pubs in the village.
We have been coming to Coniston and the Lakes at Easter for many years and have now stayed in Tarn Hows for 2 years running. The apartments are very spacious and well equipped in a perfect location in the village centre, with good walks straight from the door. As ever, Tarn Hows was spotless and very comfortable for our usual visit this Easter with the added bonus of homemade cake and milk on arrival, setting us up nicely for a very relaxing holiday. The owners, Mr & Mrs Robinson, are very welcoming and on hand , if needed. Thank you for another great holiday. We have already booked for next year.
We stayed at Coniston Lodge for the second year running in July 2014 with friends. The apartments are situated near to the village centre, homely and well equipped. Elizabeth’s homemade cake was scrumptious as ever and was enjoyed with beautiful views from the living room. Tony was always willing to give advice on the local area and nothing was too much trouble. We had a great holiday and look forward to our next visit next year.
We stayed in the Tarn Hows apartment for the first week in July. The accommodation is extremely spacious and equipped with just about everything you could possibly need. With superb views over the garden and distant landscape, it was even nice just sitting and watching the vast variety of birds in the garden on a not so dry day ! The location is idyllic – the lake being about 15 minutes away on foot with a vast array of other walks nearby. The welcoming tray with a choice of hot drinks and a delicious Victoria Sponge and ginger shortbread were most appreciated. Anthony and Elisabeth are very pleasant – accommodating without being overpowering – very nice people. We would definitely consider staying again.
We stayed in Tarn Hows in July 2017. We found it to be very comfortable, spacious and clean with everything you could need for such a stay. It is in a quiet location, yet only a 2 minute walk to the centre where there is a good variety of ‘local’ shops and pubs. There is off road parking. Excellent views all round the property. If you are a bird lover, there are many birds to be seen in the garden from the living room which is situated on the first floor. The owners were very friendly and helpful and provided us with a welcoming cake which was very good indeed! We would happily stay there again. Coniston is a very lovely place indeed.
We enjoyed a week at Easter staying in Yewdale Crags. The apartments are very comfortable with all you need for your holiday and Tony and Elizabeth are always there with help and advice should you need it. The location is quiet, yet only a few minutes walk from the village centre with its shops and five pubs selling good food and beer. Yewdale Crags provided a perfect base from which to go walking – we have never used the car so little in the Lakes. Having holidayed in the Lake District many times, it was the first time we had stayed in Coniston – with all it had to offer, it won’t be the last and Coniston Lodge apartments make an ideal base.
It was our first time for visiting The Lake District and Tarn Hows, Coniston Lodge was the perfect introduction to Coniston. The apartment was cosy especially after returning from a walk. It was also pleasant to be greeted by Elizabeth telling us she had made a cake for our arrival. The weather also added to our enjoyment of Coniston and surrounding area. We also enjoyed being able to tap into local knowledge which Elizabeth and Anthony were happy to supply. We wanted a relaxing holiday and we got it because everything was so agreeable. We hope to return and would certainly recommend Coniston Lodge because it is the main element that makes your holiday so enjoyable. Even if it rained you still have a welcoming place to return to. Our thanks again to Elizabeth and Anthony for making our stay so memorable. October 2019
Thank you for a wonderful week in Yewdale Crags apartment, every bit as homely and well presented as Tarn Hows apartment, in which we have stayed twice in the past, and Mrs Robinsons cakes are legendary Hoping you will have us back again in the not too distant future Until then, Thank you again.
We stayed in the Tarn How’s apartment and this was so well equipped with everything and more for the week. The hosts were excellent nothing was too much trouble. The location is perfect. We would stay here again and recommend to our friends. Thank you for a great week.
What a beautiful cottage, we stayed in Tarn How’s in Coniston for 7 days over the new year 2022 and what a relaxing stay it was, the cottage was warm, cosy, clean to the very highest standard. Elizabeth and Tony left fabulous cake and scones to leave for our return as the weather was rain, rain and more rain, but it did not spoil our holiday, we were able to dry out our clothes and boots which was a god send as we got wet 6 days out of 7. The Location is perfect for Coniston to eat out if required, but the facilities at the cottage are 1st Class everything is there to cook in the well equipped kitchen, even a dishwasher. The Garden is full of wonderful birds even in winter. We look forward to going back this year and see the summer garden. It was wonderful to see Coniston in the winter without the summer tourists, and managed to get to 2 Park Runs and people were very friendly. Thank you for a lovely stay
Just returned from a wonderful seven night break. We stayed in the Yewdale Crags apartment. Spotlessly clean and everything you would require from a self catering apartment. Really warm and cosy rooms, fantastic location and great hosts. We’ll definitely return. Thanks very much.
Just returned home from a truly relaxing week at Yewdale Crag Apartment. We felt welcome as soon as we walked through the door. The apartment is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped and the off-street parking is a welcome bonus. We were delighted with the home-made sponge cake which was lovely to come back to after our days out walking the Coniston Fells. Already, we are looking forward to a return visit next Easter!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in the Tarn Howes apartment – wonderful accommodation, excellent hosts and a truly inspiring area for walking. i am sure it won’t be too long before we return. Many Thanks.
We had a lovely stay at Tarn Hows apartment, so much so we are already looking to book your other apartment as I write this. Thankyou Anthony and Elizabeth for your hospitality and the fabulous sponge cake.
My girlfriend and I stayed recently stayed in the Yewdale Crag apartment. We could not fault it. The apartment was very homely. The twin room had a wonderful Beatrix Potter theme. The apartment met all our needs and more. Plenty of room and well kitted it. The laundry room was there to use if necessary. We cannot fault Mr and Mrs Robinson., very welcoming people. The “welcome pack” of fresh flowers and freshly made cake was a lovely touch. Compliments to Mrs Robinson for making a lovely cake. This was our first visit to the Lodge and we hope to be back. I have already had discussions with Mr Robinson about coming back in 2024. The apartment was near the village centre which was handy. Coniston is a great base for exploring that part of Cumbria.
We had a lovely week staying in the Tarn Hows apartment. Such a friendly welcome and the apartment was so comfortable, spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. Centrally located in Coniston with walks from the door and close to shops and pubs. We have been coming to Coniston for many years and this is definitely the best accommodation we have stayed in – 10 out of 10.
We had a lovely time in Coniston. The apartment was clean, well equipped and very central. Very friendly with a homely atmosphere. Will be going back

Margaret & Kevin Wiltshire & Peter & Pam Greatorex
We had a lovely stay in Yewdale Crags apartment and found Anthony and Elizabeth very welcoming hosts. It was very interesting to chat with them about the history of Donald Campbell and his world speed record and the connection with Coniston Lodge. Thank you for the homemade cake which was delicious. We found the apartment spacious and comfortable with everything supplied that we could have needed. We loved the homeliness and added touches which made our stay all the better. This is an ideal place to stay in Coniston as it is only a short walk to the village for pubs, and also for leaving the car behind for going off walking. Thank you for making our annual Lake District stay so memorable.
We have just had a fantastic week staying in Tarn How’s. The apartment couldn’t have been better equipped or cleaner. It’s very central and with the addition of parking is perfect. Antony and Elizabeth are excellent friendly hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed the welcome cake provided too. We are very much hoping to return next year. Many thanks to you both from Paul, Kathryn, Maisie and Florence.
Just had a lovely week (9th to 16th Nov 2024) in the Tarn Hows apartment. It was so spotlessly clean, comfortable & homely we could happily have stayed there much longer. The rooms are warm, spacious and beautifully furnished. The beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped. Anthony & Elizabeth are perfect hosts: there when required but never intrusive and there was a very tasty cake waiting for us upon arrival in the apartment. A nice touch. We hope to return next year.
This is our fourth time at Coniston Lodge.. Tarn Hows was spotless and very comfortable with the added bonus of homemade Gingerbread on arrival, setting us up nicely for a very relaxing holiday. The owners, Anthony and Elizabeth are very welcoming and on hand , if needed. Thank you for another great holiday. Thank you for ordering weather for us…
We have just arrived back home after a fabulous stay at Coniston Lodge. This is our fourth visit with friends and yet again you didn’t disappoint.. The apartment (Tarn How’s) is in a great location situated near to the village centre, very cosy and well equipped. Elizabeth’s homemade gingerbread was delicious. We enjoyed sitting out in the garden after a long day out, Anthony is always willing to give advice on the local area and nothing was too much trouble. We had a great holiday and look forward to our next visit next year. Thank you both
We’ve stayed here twice now in the last couple of years . The accommodation is comfortable, well equipped and has loads of character . The hosts are absolutely lovely people and can’t do enough for you . Home made cake on arrival that was delicious ! Perfect location in the heart of Coniston , literally a one minute walk to the high street . Highly recommended !
Just back from our second stay at Yewdale Crag appartment. Another great week visiting easily accessible tourist spots whether walking, driving or on the bus. Coniston has all amenities close by just a few minutes walk away from our appartment. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson are lovely hosts – very friendly and helpful. The homemade gingerbread was a lovely welcome too!
Lovely to have had the pleasure of staying with you last September 2025 after a difficult preceding couple of years. Clean and comfortable and very kind hosts and your home made marmalade is delicious.
Would love to rebook when life allows xxxx
